AI Automation Engineer (AI-Native / Agent-Oriented)
This role is focused on eliminating manual work, automating complex workflows, and driving measurable business impact. You’ll design systems that run overnight, reduce operational cost, and allow teams to focus on high-value decisions.
Responsibilities:
- Design and deploy automation that replaces repetitive human workflows across claims, denials, and reconciliation
- Build API-driven integrations across payer portals, clearinghouses, EHRs, and internal systems
- Act as the orchestrator of AI agents—owning architecture, constraints, and output quality
- Partner with product, data, and operations to identify high-impact automation opportunities
- Quantify and drive ROI for every workflow you ship
- Help define and improve a cost-per-workflow model
- Mentor engineers on AI-native development (prompting, agent orchestration, spec-driven workflows)
Qualifications:
AI-Native Experience (Must-Have)
- You build software using AI agents (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar)—not just experiment with them
- Strong experience writing prompts, specs (AGENTS.md / CLAUDE.md), and agent workflows
- Hands-on experience with multi-agent orchestration, sub-agents, or MCP servers
- Ability to showcase real systems shipped using agentic workflows
Automation & Engineering Background
- 5+ years building automation that replaced manual work (RPA, APIs, back-office systems)
- Proven impact such as hours saved, reduced error rates, or cost improvements
- Strong full-stack capability (Java, React, AWS, PostgreSQL or similar)
- Experience integrating with complex third-party systems (unstable APIs, portals, file feeds)
- Strong understanding of reliability patterns (retries, observability, idempotency)
How You Work
- You lead with ROI and business impact, not just technical execution
- You understand both the strengths and limitations of AI agents
- You communicate clearly across documentation, specs, and technical artifacts
- You are comfortable owning work end-to-end, from concept through production
Nice to Have
- Healthcare technology experience (RCM, claims, EHRs, HL7/FHIR, 837/835)
- Exposure to HIPAA, HITRUST, or similar frameworks
- Experience supporting internal operations teams as primary users
- Experience defining engineering productivity or ROI metrics
